Turbo (2013) Synopsis :
Turbo (2013) -
DreamWorks Animation 's latest movie releases , Turbo , which is also the
directorial debut for David Soren , a story about a garden snail named Theo (
Ryan Reynolds ) - or who prefer to be called as Turbo , who dream to be the
best rider in the world , as well as idol , Guy Gagne ( Bill Hader ) - a human
being . The problem is ... well ... Turbo is a snail that has long since
destiny as one of the animals with the slowest movement of the body in the
world . The obsession often makes the subject of derision for Turbo snail
community around him , including his brother , Chet ( Paul Giamatti ) . It was
then pushed Turbo to leave their homes and choose the location to search for
his own destiny .
In a way , Turbo inadvertently thrown into the
supercharger then a race car and make the skin mixed with nitrous oxide
compounds that are in the machine . Just as Peter Parker is bitten by a spider
whose genetic composition has been fabricated , the next day , Turbo finds that
he is able to move much , much faster than usual . Obviously , extraordinary
events are then inspired to pursue his dream Turbo . And with the help of Tito
( Michael Peña ) , a taco seller who also manages the snail racing contest ,
Turbo slowly began to realize his dream to be a racer and take part in a race
event in the world 's most famous race , the Indianapolis 500 .
Instead of comparing the Turbo with the franchise The
Fast and the Furious (2001 - 2013) as labeled on the movie poster , the most
appropriate comparison may be done with the film by Pixar Animation Studios ,
Ratatouille (2007 ) . Simply put , they both told of the figure of an animal
that has a point of view , life and dreams like a human : Turbo is Remy
character - a character whose desire is so big rat on the food , the character
Tito is Alfredo Linguini - Remy human companions for a character , the
character Guy Gagne is so idolized that Auguste Gusteau and Remy being a role
model , and , of course, the racing world is the world of cooking in
Ratatouille storytelling lines . Turbo characters attempt to prove his prowess
in racing may also provide a glimpse at the memory of Cars (2006 ) . Not so
original eh ?
Unfortunately , despite the similarity possessed by a
character or line of storytelling , presentation quality manuscripts Turbo
stories written by David Soren along with Robert Siegel and Darren Lemke had
never been able to approach the quality of the production of animated films
that Pixar Animation Studios has won the category of Best Animated Featured in
the event of the 80th Annual Academy Awards . Unlike the character Remy who has
a tremendous attraction to be able to change as well to convince the audience
that a rat can have the ability to cook , without the strength of character of
the present Turbo . Turbo character development comes almost without meaning :
a weak figure with a big dream , obtain an intensity that could make him prove
himself and finally really able to achieve all of his dreams . Clichés and
without the ability to give the character a more powerful storytelling points .
Not only the characters that are present Turbo too flat .
Other supporting characters are also presented with equal depth . Guy Gagne
Keantagonisan character feels too forced to be present - when Turbo ran a
challenge to be given to the main character , then the character was
transformed into the figure of an antagonist . Supporting characters such as
Chet and Tito also never presented more than a mere additional characters -
whereas fraternal relationship between the characters Turbo and Chet holds so
much potential to produce a strong emotional element of storytelling . Turbo
storyline itself is never touched at all levels as a bad storytelling . However
, the idea is actually quite unique , Turbo unfortunately developed far from
being attractive .
If DreamWorks Animation attempting to approach the class
of Pixar Animation Studios , then the quality can again be derived from their
ability to produce a very interesting visual order . In some parts of the story
, Turbo appear with colors so bright but still very comfortable to watch. Voice
lineup ranging from Ryan Reynolds , Paul Giamatti , Michael Peña up names like
Ken Jeong and Snoop Dogg ( ! ) Is also quite good in their attempt to turn
every character that they isisuarakan - though still far from being memorable
or special.
Quite surprising to see a work that at first glance seem
DreamWorks Animation does not attempt to break down the levels of quality that
has previously been applied by Pixar Animation Studios - DreamWorks Animation
clearly the strongest competitor Pixar Animation Studios to date . Turbo seems
so ... not bad ... but ( very ) far from being special. The storylines and
character waking too simple and minimalist so developed with failing to appear
emotional and entertaining . Of course , attractive visual quality and the
supporting characters are funny would be capable enough to attract the young
audience , the main target of this film .
